We humans are a part of nature. The rhythms and cycles of the natural world live in us, and we in them. When we remember that, and live accordingly, we are healthier. We find answers to life's questions by attuning to the elements, the seasons, the moon, the
sun, the tides.
We humans often move too fast, and with unhealthy rhythms of action and rest. Many of our workplaces and institutions reinforce and expect this. Nature teaches us balance, harmony, and wise use of our energy. She also teaches us presence and awareness, the capacity of being alert and ready, without being hyper-vigilant and anxious. When we open our
lives to this wisdom, we honor the letting go, the hibernation times, the darkness, the laying fallow, as well as the seasons of activity and growth.
Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. —Lao Tzu
Our individual grief and suffering, as well as our transcendent experience, live within both the collective planetary grief, and the wisdom of the natural world. So much harm - individual, interpersonal, collective, cultural, and planetary - has been caused by we humans separating ourselves from nature. It is essential that we not only connect with nature, but that we
remember and experience ourselves as nature.
Expressive arts is a pathway to that remembrance. The more we practice our work within a conscious embrace of the natural world, the deeper and more effective the work is.
The more we love nature, the more we love ourselves. And, the more we love our essential selves, the more we love nature. And, we protect what we love.
If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence we could rise up rooted, like trees. Rainer Maria Rilke
