Through the expressive arts, we learn to listen deeply to ourselves, and to bring forth an image – a painting, a movement, a poem, sound, or rhythm.
The image we create shows us what was just beyond our awareness, and allows us to witness it. We learn about ourselves by witnessing our own images, as they arise from that deep, still place inside. We learn to witness with presence and curiosity, and without judgment. We notice how we feel in response to our image.
We don't assign meaning to our image.
We see the image as a messenger.
And, when we listen deeply to ourselves, and bring mindful presence, without judgement, to our own experience, we are much more prepared to listen deeply to others. To our children, our partner, our neighbor, our fellow humans, the Earth.
