In this expressive arts workshop the facilitators will lead participants through the use of various modalities to explore a personal life situation and the different ways to look at that situation. Based on the model of the mind proposed by Dr. Dan Siegel,
the workshop explores how we can use our minds to help ourselves. Integrating the expressive arts, neuroscience, positive psychology, and aspects of narrative therapy, the session will provide an opportunity for participants to zoom in to understand how our behavior is shaped by the plateaus of our minds, as well as zoom out and recognize the discourses in our systems that shape the plateaus of our
minds.
According to Dr. Dan Siegel, "... When we access the plane (of possibilities), when we become aware, we are in a pause that creates a space between impulse and action, and we are also in the “mental space” in which we can find other choices in how to
respond in the moment. This is the power of awareness to catalyze choice and change."

Participants are invited to bring whatever art materials they have such as art paper, oil pastels and watercolors.
Participants will:
- Understand a model of the brain based on quantum physics as proposed by Dr. Dan Siegel.
- Explore personal situations where they would like to grow using this model through the expressive arts process to get clarity on how we act (plateaus) and how we can act (plane of
possibilities)
- Be introduced to the wheel of awareness meditation as a means to access their “plane of possibilities”

Focusing Oriented Expressive Arts: The Felt Sense as a Doorway to Expression

Focusing-Oriented Expressive Arts (FOAT®) is a mindfulness and somatic based approach to the expressive arts developed by Dr. Laury Rappaport. This workshop provides an overview of the history, foundational principles, and main approaches of FOAT®— and teaches how the felt sense is a doorway to all of the expressive arts modalities and intermodal expression. The workshop includes a theoretical overview along with
experiential exercises to teach an introduction to Focusing-Oriented Expressive Arts (FOAT®) as an intermodal approach.
Your Storylines: Points in Racial Awareness
