Is it Time to Share Your Gifts?

Published: Tue, 08/01/17

Your creative practice affects not only you. It ripples out as a gift to those around you.

Dear

Are you looking for a pathway from where you are to where you want to go?

This is Part 3 in a 4-part series, designed to help you navigate your expressive arts journey.
You can catch up with Part 1 and Part 2 here.

SHARING YOUR GIFTS

Are you ...
  • Getting a feel for a personal practice?
  • Finding a rhythm in expressing your creative self?
  • Wondering how you could share this with others?
  • Working in a professional capacity that could benefit from an infusion of creativity?
  • Unsure about what steps to take?
When we bring the power of the arts into our own lives, we affect those around us. We become better problem solvers, we are more authentic in our interactions, and more fully present to our day to day experiences. We have a stronger, clearer connection with ourselves, and, consequently a clearer connection with others. Our creative practice not only affects us, it ripples out as a gift to those around us. Personal change effects change in the world.

Perhaps, though, you are feeling the call to learn how to consciously and intentionally bring this work to others.

  • Maybe you are a therapist, and you can see how the expressive arts would deepen your work with clients - making it more fulfilling for you and more effective for them.

  • Maybe you are a teacher who desires to integrate more creativity and imagination into your classroom.

  • Perhaps you are a healthcare professional with an appreciation of the health-giving properties of the arts and you don't know where to start.

  • Every day in our workshops and training programs, we have the privilege to guide and share with people like you, as well as with spiritual directors, caregivers, helping professionals, artists, entrepreneurs, actors, pastors, and more.

  • And, if you are simply drawn to this, with no clear idea why, you are not alone. New possibilities are sure to emerge, and new doorways appear, as you immerse yourself in the process of creative exploring. The world needs this work.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS?

There many factors to consider in choosing a pathway to becoming an Expressive Arts practitioner, and yes, it can be confusing! Is your goal to become an expressive arts therapist? A consultant/educator? Facilitator or practitioner? What is your background and what training do you already have? Do you need a Masters degree? Or another degree? What can you expect from an Institute Training? Do you have to commit to an entire program in order to register for a course?

Perhaps this would be a good time to speak with one of us.  We can help you figure out whether our training is right for you.
Just send us an email and we will send you an overview and/or schedule a phone call.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY IT OUT?

Our October class - Expressive Arts for Body Mind Spirit - is an open class, meaning you can apply to take it even if you are not a certificate student in our program. This is a good way to "try it out", getting a great basic introduction to the field, a deep and meaningful personal experience, and credit towards your certificate, if you decide to pursue it. LMHC's, LCSW's and LMFT's also receive CEU's for this workshop.

WHAT IS EXPRESSIVE ARTS FOR BODY MIND SPIRIT?
It is an experiential class/workshop that embraces the integrated nature of the arts. You can expect to engage in deep personal exploration through visual art, movement, sound, music, writing, guided meditation, and nature ceremony. A strong group “container” will be established, through guidelines and ground rules, and witnessing/sharing will be an important part of the total experience. Expressive Arts is a holistic field, inviting deep exploration and change in all aspects of human experience – body, mind, and spirit.  A variety of powerful and playful individual and group arts processes will evoke authentic creative expression and meaningful personal growth. You will create a beautiful, meaningful, personal mandala (sacred circle) that “holds” the totality of your experience over the course of the workshop.

The group will be small (max 10-12) and co-taught by Expressive Arts Florida Institute faculty

In this workshop, you will experience and learn the creative connection between the arts modalities (visual art, movement, writing, sound, music, rhythm, guided meditation, drama). The following arts processes, plus didactic content, witnessing /sharing and personal reflection are woven together for a holistic learning experience.
  • Authentic movement
  • Creating a mandala
  • a variety of voice explorations
  • an introduction to Touch Drawing™
  • Creative drama
  • Psychokinetic drawing
  • Clay work and story
  • Dance of everyday gestures
  • Toning
  • Nature-based art and ritual

YOUR NEXT STEP?
If we return to the metaphor of the path that we started this series with, ask yourself how you are progressing on your journey. What are you feeling familiar with, and which adventure are you ready for next?

Are you....
  • continuing your personal practice for self-exploration?
  • feeling the results, reaching out, learning more?
  • diving in to an intensive?
  • seeking training to share your gifts?
Let us know! We would love to hear, and we are happy to help!

The final segment of this series - Support for Professionals - will be out during the week of
August 14. If you already have training, and you are looking for additional resources, supervision, registration, and/or an ongoing community, this is for you!

If you are reading this on Facebook, or if someone forwarded you this link, be sure to sign up on our list at www.expresiveartsflorida.com so that you receive all our posts and notifications.
