At this time of Solstice, we thank you for being part of our community, and the global community of Expressive Arts. We reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead.
“Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence. Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance. Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence. Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance.”
Yoko Ono
Over this past week, we have had the good fortune to be in several expressive arts circles - Expressive Arts Discovery, an EAFI Alumni Gathering, a custom workshop for a group of therapists, the final session of our Facilitation Skills course, Intention Setting live, and a Zoom Art as a Healing Practice session exploring the theme of transition. It has been so rich, and we thank each of you
who have joined us for these creative explorations.
Today, with the Solstice, we are all at the stillpoint, whether in the northern or southern hemisphere. We hope that you take a pause to reflect, and perhaps create something at this liminal time. Even ten minutes of reflection and expression can make a difference as we move through this sacred time. There is
so much moving within us, and around us.
This is the solstice, the still point
of the sun, its cusp and midnight,
the
year’s threshold
and unlocking, where the past
lets go of and becomes the future;
the place of caught breath, the
door
of a vanished house left ajar...”
― Margaret Atwood, Eating Fire : Selected Poetry, 1965-95
We invite you to create an
image, a poem, a movement sequence, or a rhythm in response to this quote from Margaret Atwood. You might begin by selecting a phrase from the poem thats stand out or shines for you, and begin with that line, to create your own writing. Or perhaps one of the phrases invites the creation of a visual image.
Ask yourself:
What is possible here? What am I desiring? Intending? Dreaming into being?
