Dear Creative Friend, You may have heard the quote, "if you can imagine it you can achieve it" (attributed to
William Arthur Ward). Don't you agree? Imagination is crucial to our lives and our health, to shaping the world we want to live in. I (Tamara) have been imagining what will grow in my garden, my life, and our business. I have been reading, digging, planting, drawing, writing. In my reading, this quote from Rabbi Adina Allen's new book "The Place of All Possibility" (which I highly recommend) stood out. She writes, "The spring of creativity is our most renewable resource. It's how we stay awake to beauty and possibility amid the disarray and disappointment of
life. It's how we envision new paths and work up the courage to follow them". (Allen, p. 54) She said it so well, there is not much more to say other than this is what we do well in expressive arts practice- follow our creative thread as we stay curious, explore, and discover. As we continue to explore possibility and allow our imaginations to inform us, we open
ourselves to new ideas and begin to envision new paths. The most important thing is to stay connected to our creativity. When we are cut off from it, the "disarray and disappointment of life" can take hold. I have said for many years now that creativity is inextricably connected to hope. We cultivate hope as we engage deeply with our creativity. Right now, we are still exploring so there is not a lot to report in terms of what is to come for EAFI in the next year but we are engaged in the
process and trust the process is productive. The seeds planted are germinating, we know there is a lot happening and soon it will be visible to us. Here is my recent image from Expressive Arts Discovery and the message it has for me:
Open spaces Winding my way through Delighted by the surprises Balancing steady with wander Holding, moving, being
free I have spaces within me I know how to hold still in wonder and
wander about in delight Flitting like a firefly Finding my way. (Wander and Wonder by Tamara) We try to offer many ways for you to do that and hope that you will accept the invitation to continue creating, making, exploring through your imagination. You just never know what amazing things will happen as a result! A new invitation is the Art Bundles for Good which we are
participating in (see below). Whatever speaks to you this week, we hope you will get creative and enjoy the process. If you would you like to share any part of your own personal practice, you can do that in our private Facebook group. It is a sanctuary for witnessing one another. (If you are a new member, please be sure to answer the questions and agree to the rules. That helps us to hold a safe and
welcoming space.) With love and gratitude, Tamara & Kathleen P.S. Have you entered the Art Bundles for Good #9 Giveaway yet?
