Dear Creative Friend, The renewal of spring brings a season of change. We have entered the time of year when
less things are scheduled and we have moved into creative wandering. Oh how I (Tamara) love this place -the place of wonder as I wander. It's delicious, exciting, inspiring, and feels like new spring leaves bursting forth. It feels so good to notice how aligned I feel with the cycle of the sun and earth. As part of this process, I am learning about Florida native plants and planning a native gardenscape at my home. It is a way for me to listen to Nature, to be a better steward of the land Iive
on, and to get creative. I am researching, photographing, drawing, planning, and soon planting. A whole new outlet for my creative spirit. What I have become aware of is how important it is for me to wander - to have unscheduled time (even if it's only a little) to be curious and follow the path it leads me down. I am also learning lessons already from the plants.
- I grow best when I am planted in an environment I was meant to be in.
- If I am getting root bound in a pot, I need to be replanted in a place where
my roots can spread out more so they can hold water to nourish my leaves and blossoms.
- I need water, sun, air, food, and a way to spread my pollen and seeds.
- When I am planted in the place where I am meant to grow, it is easy for me to be prolific and abundant.
I thrive!
- I need care and I am resilient.
Here are some ground cover plants that like it here in southwest Florida. Aren't they beautiful? They are all a little different and they have similarities. They each like to spread out, expand, cover more ground as they grow. They live and play well together, too.
It's just so exciting to imagine how they might thrive in a place where they are planted with care.
The metaphor of gardening is not one I am very familiar with personally, so this is exciting - a whole new frontier for me. What I offer
from my musings is a question for you. What specifically do you want to grow for yourself this season? What ecosystem do you need to thrive in? Create an image, move your body, write some words, sing a song. Consider how you might give back to Earth this Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22). If you live in Florida, you might like to see what native plants grow well in your neighborhood here.
If you would you like to share any part of your own personal practice, you can do that in our private Facebook group. It is a sanctuary for witnessing one another. (If you are a new member, please be sure to answer the questions and agree to the rules. That helps us to hold a safe and welcoming space.) |
Thank you for reading our newsletter. We are each doing our own creative explorations and will share more about what is coming up before too long. In the meantime, we both plan to tend to new growth in the spaciousness of our arts practice.
With love and gratitude, Tamara and
