Hello
Creative Friend,
What an intensely polarizing week it has been here in the U.S.! The presidential election finds us deeply divided as a nation, with some of us experiencing devastation, confusion, and even despair, and others feeling excitement and hope. It is very challenging, and even feels risky, to reach across the divide. And it is essential that we find ways to do just that.
As humans,
aren't we really more the same than we are different?
Consider these words, and perhaps create an image in response.
“Here's to the bridge-builders, the hand-holders, the light-bringers,
those extraordinary souls wrapped in ordinary
lives who quietly
weave threads of humanity into an inhumane world. They are
the unsung heroes in a world at war with itself.
They are the whisperers of hope that peace is possible.
Look for them in this present darkness.
Light your candle with their flame. And then go.
Build bridges. Hold hands. Bring light to a dark and desperate world.
Be the hero you are looking for.
Peace is possible. It begins with us.”

Using expressive arts we can process emotions and explore the relationship between two things that feel completely opposed to one
another. One way to do this is to use the mandorla or vesica piscis form. Imagine two intersecting circles, each one representing one side of an issue, challenge, question, or inner experience. The intersection creates an almond shape in the center that represents the liminal space between the two. It is a shared space, a space where we explore the connection between the two sides. It is where we can find common ground or the birthing of something new. We invite you to use the mandorla to
explore opposing forces, emotions, or experiences. You can use our complimentary lesson as a guide.
