Hello Creative
Friends, Sometimes in expressive arts we talk about the place we access when we are engaged with our practice. This place is filled with possibilty, full of potential, wonder, and awe. We call it different names in an effort to describe it, but often we name it mystery or sacred space. In last week's workshop led by Renee and Tamara, we explored the relationship between spirituality and expressive arts. We explored mystery not as "not knowable" but as infinitely knowable. It is the place where all things emerge from - a source or wellspring. Our explorations led us to reflect on how natural it feels, as both spirituality and creativity are both part of being human! We do not always talk about the relationship between expressive arts and spirituality, but it is exciting to consider and acknowledge the intimate relationship of these two things. In Natalie Rogers' book "The Creative Connection" she shares a conversation with her friend Angeles Arrien who says, "Creativity is a door to spirituality" and "the creative spirit within an individual is that impulse which is deeply connected to a spiritual essence that is
relentless about being expressed". She continues to add that intermodal expressive arts (which includes all the modalities) provides a container to hold all the forms of expression of spirit rather than just one form (as only one modality might). As you engage with your expressive arts practice this week, we invite you to consider what moves within you when you are creating and how you are exploring, growing, and
allowing your deepest impulses to take form. In October, we have our 2nd workshop in the Imagining the Sacred series with Renee Bhatia; Imagination and Images of God. This workshop will explore images and how they function, including images of God or the sacred. We will consider different sources of images, and how to uncover and play with images that are operating in ourselves and our directees.
