Dear Creative Friend, Â With a little slower rhythm
this week as summer starts to set in, I (Tamara) have been working on some new ideas and projects (stay tuned for those). Playing with art materials has been exciting and fun. I LOVE playing with different things to see what will happen. What I notice is that I slow down and become present, fascinated by what will happen next, following my curiosity. It keeps me in the moment, helps me be mindful and slow down. A quick google search found this definition of mindfulness.  Mindfulness, which is defined as "moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness", can lead to a shift in how we experience our lives. This shift, called reperceiving, allows us to be present with our experiences instead of covering them up with conscious or unconscious
interpretations. Â
Isn't this exactly what expressive arts practice offers us? At least one of the many benefits of expressive arts is the "moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness" that leads to a shift. This shift helps us resituate ourselves in our lives, refreshes our perspective, and
helps us be more present to what is in the here and now. I invite you to consider how you might engage with some art materials this week to practice mindfulness. Notice cause and effect - what happens when you draw only curvy lines or when you paint water on paper and then drop paint into it? Experiment with crayons and watery paint, layering the dry materials under the wet
materials. The possibilities are endless.Â
We invite you to play this week with some art materials. There is so much richness in not knowing what will happen and discovering something along the way. If you would like to share in the FB group we look forward to witnessing.
Thank you for being here and for reading our newsletters, for inviting the power of this work to nourish you. We look forward to hearing from you, or to seeing you in the circle soon.
