Dear Creative Friends, What are your biggest
questions about Expressive Arts? We would love to know! Each week, as an introduction to our Creative Menu, we write about different aspects of this work and we offer you an invitation to try something on your own. Some of you share how that goes, or post in our FB group. We love receiving your feedback. You can re-visit a few of our recent
newsletters here, if you like.
This week, we invite you to consider your own
big questions about Expressive Arts, and share them with us. We welcome the opportunity to tailor our weekly writings to your specific questions. If you are reading our newsletter, you have interest in the expressive arts, whether you are brand new to the field or an experienced practitioner. No matter your level of experience, new questions are always emerging, and an arts practice helps us to listen deeply and better define for ourselves what those emerging questions
are.
Try this: - Take a minute or so to gaze softly at
this image, and quiet your mind.
- Tune in to the cycle of your breath. Call in your creativity and the wisdom it carries.
- Consider this field of Expressive Arts. Imagine this field, and
notice where you are in relation to it. What is the quality of your relationship with it? Is it surrounding you, or off to one side, or up ahead somewhere? Move your body, and explore the space around you, seated or standing, as you experience, in your imagination, your relationship to this field. Consider what you cherish, what you long for, what confuses you. Keep moving and exploring until it feels like time to pause. As you pause, allow your body to take a pose or gesture that seems to
reflect your experience. Hold that pose for a bit, and release.
- Go to your art materials, and spend some time making marks, shapes, colors, textures, or whatever arrives on the page. If your visual image has a title, write it down.
- Then do some spontaneous free writing in response.
- Finally, write: As I consider my relationship to expressive arts, my biggest question is............(and write what arrives).
What did you learn? Is there something you would like to share with us? We would love to explore your questions in upcoming newsletters. Just reply to this
email. Currently, in our Business and Profession class, students are using expressive arts practice to identify their questions, define their visions and missions, find their ideal clients, and more. A rich personal practice is a resource to identify our questions, bring them into the light where we
can engage with them creatively and consciously. Thanks for being here, for reading our newsletters, and for inviting the power of this work to nourish your life, and to spread, through you, into the world. We look forward
to hearing from you, or to seeing you in the circle, or the FB group, soon.
With gratitude, Kathleen, Tamara, and the Expressive Arts Florida Team
