Dear This week we reflect on what Art and Healing actually means to us. At a young age, I (Tamara) began dancing and then learning about visual art. By the time I was applying for college, art and dance felt like essential parts of who I was and somehow I knew that I needed the arts in my life and career. I had moved through many transitions and experiences while growing up and the arts had given me a way to express things I did not have words for. I came to learn more about how the arts could be used for healing as a professional over the decades through study and practice. Throughout the past few decades, I have continued to use the arts as a way to express my innermost feelings, process losses and accomplishments, inquire and consult my inner wisdom when I felt lost. I have used the arts to heal and grow. As a result of this practice, I feel more capable today than ever to embrace life fully, to celebrate and honor what is most important, to be present to what is challenging as well as what is beautiful. My life feels full and rich with textures and colors. I feel engaged and grateful for it all. I am also aware that my expressive arts practice holds me like a gentle, constant, reliable companion.
When I consider art and healing, they feel inextricably connected. Art is healing and connects me to my best, most authentic self, as well as to deep love and hope for myself, others, and the world.
"Living with Uncertainty" Tamara, 2023 Each of us at EAFI have our own journeys with art and healing to share. Kathleen has created a body of work from her practice and we are so grateful to be able to
share it with you. It is hard to convey how deeply meaningful this work can be, but the Art as a Healing Practice series is our way of offering it to you. We know many of you are on this path with us already and we imagine you in the circle with us. We hope that if you have not joined yet, you will soon so that you can experience the healing that is possible through your own art and healing journey. We hope that you find your way to using art as a healing practice and we invite you to share with us if you would like.
Our private FB group has some new
energy happening lately, and we invite you to witness and share if you would like. (If you are new to the group, be sure to fill out the questions and agree to the rules) We hope to see you in the circle soon! In gratitude, Tamara, Kathleen and the EAFI Team
