Dear Creative Friends, Many years ago now (8 maybe?), we decided to begin making art every week together
and invite others to join us. We started Open Studio on Wednesday mornings and continued every week for years until the pandemic started. Then we shifted it to be online and we continue to offer it there too (our next one is Tuesday!). We also now do an Open Studio in person once a month. On Friday, a few of us gathered and brought art processes we wanted to work on. It was exciting to see the variety and to witness one another following creative threads that inspire us. Connecting
within to your own creativity is life-giving, supportive, and fun. It is especially uplifting to share it with others in this way.
In our work over the years, many of you probably know that we have used the Flower of Life in many of the things we have done. We teach others about it, use it collaboratively in a variety of ways, and built
our business on the model of the Flower of Life. It is a sacred geometric form that expresses our interconnectedness, allowing each circle to remain whole but also be connected to a network of other circles that together make a beautiful pattern. It is a wonderful metapohor. For me (Tamara) this week in Open Studio, I began noticing that as I worked
with the Flower of Life drawing I was inspired to let it loosen up a bit and allow lines to wander. I noticed through the process that my experience of connections with others over time are often like that - they loosen and then reform as we lose touch and then reconnect. Somehow, the process of drawing it differently and letting the lines lead the way helped me understand something deep within. It may look just like some colors with lines on top, but always there is something reflected inside
that cannot otherwise be expressed or explained. It is like magic that way!
My image is still evolving, along with my understanding. It will take me to a new place and I look forward to where that might be. We want to invite you to consider the creative threads that are calling to you and how you experience connection. Imagine you as a circle connected other circles in a pattern. What does that look like for you? What is the experience in your body when you feel connected? How does that feeling want to be expressed on the page or in movement? What words does the connection have to share? Take some time to be with your creative self this week . In community, you can join us for Expressive Arts Discovery or Open Studio online. If you would like to share and be witnessed, you can do that in our private Facebook group.
We hope to see you in the circle soon. In gratitude, Tamara, Kathleen, and the EAFI Team
