Dear As we move through the time between Solstice and New Year, including Christmas for those who
celebrate, it is easy to get caught up in conflicting demands on our energy. The rhythm of the natural world invites us to move slowly, to go inward, as the returning light guides us gently in to an awareness of what is next. The holiday time invites us to pause, share, connect, and celebrate with friends and family. And yet, all too often, we are jostling through airport
lines, or last-minute shopping deadlines, and before we know it this time has passed, and we miss the sacred quiet time that we may need and long for.
How are you making your way through this time? What can you do to support a slower pace, a deeper awareness of internal longings and intentions for the new year? Can you find time to spend some time with your art journal, or your own creative practice? Can you spend
time outdoors, in nature, attuning yourself to earth's rhythms? We encourage you to let go of holiday expectations, at least to some degree, and navigate this time in your own way, honoring yourself and your life. Consider some creative time, as a way to connect, either with yourself, or with others. One of our favorite practices is from this little video How to Grow a Mandala, gifted to us all by Maja Apolonia
Rode. It is simple, with beautiful results, and can easily be adapted to be a collaborative process. Watch the video first, and either create on your own or create a larger one, with a group, by taking turns 'going around the circle'. Or, sitting around a table, each person can start one, and then pass to the right, each person contributing until you get yours back. It's great for kids and adults together, too. Because we love using more than one modality, as your completed mandala to tell you
about itself, beginning with the words "I am". If you are in a group, maybe there is a collaborative story that emerges. We would love to see any photos or reflections in our FB group, if you feel like sharing. Intention Setting is coming up this week in-person and next week online. And the new complete Art as a Healing Practice workshop series will be available for registration on January 1, at a special introductory price.
May this week bring you moments of creative solitude, attunement with the rhythms of nature, celebrations and connections that reflect who you are, and time to listen deeply to your
heart.
Merry Christmas and much love, Kathleen, Tamara, and the EAFI Team |
