Dear Yesterday, EAFI 220, Expressive Arts in the World, came to an end. This is a core course in our Certificate Training Program - a series of Professional
Development workshops with Expressive Arts professionals from around the world. Many of you joined us for one or more workshops, whether or not you are a currently enrolled student in our training program. From August 7 until now, this journey has been underway, with 11 workshops and 17 presenters. We are deeply grateful to all of these amazing teachers for your guidance, your wisdom, and your inspiration.
❤️🌎 Manju Jain, Aslam Khader, Hector Aristizabal, Fiona Chang, Markus Scott-Alexander, Gloria Simoneaux, Sarala
Tamang, Lillian Obonyo, Fay Wilkinson, Natalie Robelot-Timtchenko, Mayari Hernandez, Evelyn Ammon, Pili Garin, Paulina Buonafina, Varvara Sidorova, Aisha Radwan, Belinda Rego, Chandini Harlalka ❤️🌎 To assist in integrating their learning, the CTP students each created a map of their journey through this course. Here is a photo of some of the completed images. These maps are a record, or a 'visual arts container' of where the students have been and what they are taking with them from their virtual travels.

There has been so much deep learning from this series. In the midst of extensive world conflict, violence, and loss, the arts provide us with points of connection
that help to counter the polarization. The very act of creating together fosters empathy, understanding, and an appreciation for both uniqueness and commonality. I wrote this after our session yesterday: It's all about being willing to acknowledge and enter the darkness, and still live in, and offer the light, each in our own unique way. Try
this: Draw a circle on your paper. Consider 2 people (perhaps you and another) or 2 groups who seem locked in conflict. Invite a symbol to arrive for each one. Find a way (lead with your imagination, not your head) to put both of these symbols in the circle in a creative way. What do you notice? Write in the voice of the image, perhaps starting with 'I am a
circle and I hold....' or Draw a circle and invite someone else to draw with you, within the circle. Take turns making marks until the dialogue seems complete. Share your experiences or co-create a story of what you
see. As always, if you would like to share your process or anything coming up for you, we invite you to connect in our Facebook group. (If you are not yet a member, please answer the questions and agree to the group rules when you request to join.)
With gratitude, Kathleen, Tamara and the Expressive Arts Florida Team

We are so excited to be welcoming in some new students and reuniting
with others. Since this is an in person course, we will also be meeting some previous students face to face for the first time! In this course we focus on how to adapt expressive arts processes from intrapersonal to interpersonal, group and community. We teach how both individual and collaborative expressive arts processes
are utilized and how to design and facilitate collaborative art projects. This course, along with the other Level 1 courses, can be taken as a stand-alone course separate from the rest of the Certificate Training Program. We have this as an option so you can get a feeling for how we teach our expressive arts courses
and see if our training program feels like the right path for you. If you are interested in learning more about this course to potentially take it next fall, please click the button below!
