To Embrace the Turn to Autumn
We're offering another Mask Making workshop with Donna Papenhausen...
New Season, New Intention....
with Donna Papenhausen
Saturdays
October 5th and 12th
10 am - 2:30pm each day
October is the month we think of falling leaves, apple cider, pumpkins, costumes and let’s not forget masks! The art of mask making has been practiced throughout centuries and used in ritual, ceremony, and entertainment, just to name a few. Through the use of meditation, writing, and art making we will create and embellish our own mask. Have fun discovering our muse, our inner persona, our alter ego, our
spirit animal and more. As we dive into our imagination, we can explore the face or faces we would like to reveal, conceal, consider or just explore. No prior art experience needed.
Week one: using plaster bandage strips we work in pairs to make a mask on our partner’s face and on our face. (We protect sensitive skin with a coating of Vaseline). We will provide a limited number of plastic face masks for those who wish to not participate in the mask making
process itself.
Week two: as we embellish and bring forth our mask, we may reveal the sometimes-surprising persona and the message it has for us. Those who have participated in this process have not only created a wonderful product, they have also come away with deep insights about
themselves.
"I had the recent good fortune of participating in Donna Papenhausen’s two-day mask-making workshop. I was struck by the intimacy and familiarity of my mask as well as by a profound curiosity. What does this newly revealed persona have to say? As it turns out, a lot. Let the dialogue continue."
